Free Printable Solar System Coloring Pages for Kids and Adults

At one point or another, you or your child may have raised the question of whether we are alone in the universe. The existence of aliens is still debatable, but we know that planet Earth has numerous sister planets, some of which can potentially sustain life. However, there’s more to that when it comes to the solar system.

The solar system is mind-boggling in its size and complexity. In the middle of it all is the sun, a super-sized star whose gravity keeps planets, moons, asteroids, and comets orbiting around it. Our wonderful solar system contains eight planets that kids love learning about.

It used to be nine, but now Pluto is considered a dwarf planet. So, that leaves Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, which are closest to the sun in that order. Then there’s Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, which are furthest from the sun.

On the other hand, the other planets are called gas giants because they are noticeably bigger and mostly made up of gases instead of solid material. There’s a lot more to learn about the solar system, but it won’t get overwhelming because each solar system coloring page is fun to work on and has plenty of absorbing details. Preschoolers, older kids, students, and adults are welcome to enjoy themselves!

Fun Facts and Fun Coloring Pages

With so many planets and objects belonging to the solar system, it’s no wonder you’ll come across countless fun facts. For instance, the sun is so large that it hogs over 99% of all the space in the solar system. It’s so large that the Earth can fit inside the sun over a million times.

Another thing is, we all love and admire our beautiful orange sunsets, but if you’re on Mars, you’ll experience equally lovely blue sunsets. If you and your little one think the stars in the night sky are so pretty, you’ll be pleased to know that the universe is chockfull of stars even way beyond our galaxy, which is called the Milky Way. Also, have you noticed how some planets are surrounded by rings? These are made of small pieces of rocks and dust.

These fun facts are what make our solar system coloring pages so exciting. Each worksheet or coloring page is out of this world, and we have made sure to sprinkle in lots of stars for a truer representation of the universe. You might even recognize your fave constellation in the mix.

Perhaps, the most important fun fact is that our planet coloring pages are free to download. These printables also make a charming coloring book that you can turn to anytime you need to indulge in a coloring activity.

Whether they’re using a colored pencil, crayon, or water color, kids and adults of all ages will be able to create breathtaking images. It’s all in the details, so we have made sure different sheets contain different planets and satellite objects, such as a rocket, comet, and asteroid belt. One last thing – don’t forget to check out our moon and astronaut coloring pages for more fun along the same theme.
