The fourteen framed pages are the surprise here. The emoji itself is simple — a circle, two eyes, a mouth — but it sits inside a mandala-style border of points, arcs and repeating panels that fills the rest of the sheet. So each page has a five-minute part and a forty-minute part, which is unusually good for two children of different ages sharing one page.

Single faces in decorative borders
Fourteen pages give one emoji the centre of the sheet and wrap it in geometry: a winking face inside a ring of petals, a devil face on a starburst, a ghost in a hexagon, a rabbit, a monkey, a top-hatted face on a card, the pile-of-poop emoji with a grin. The borders differ page to page, so printing several does not feel repetitive.
Collage sheets
Seven pages abandon the frame and fill the sheet: dozens of faces overlapping each other, emoji mixed with ice creams, doughnuts, watermelon slices and lollipops, a unicorn over a rainbow surrounded by hearts and stars, a music page with headphones and notes. These are the busiest sheets and the ones with the widest range of colors to use.
The pattern-swatch page
One page draws a single large face with hearts around it and adds a row of empty boxes along the bottom — stripes, checks, zigzags — to test colors in before committing to the face. It is the only page on this site set up that way, and it is a genuinely useful habit to teach.
How to print these
Every page is US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), pure black and white, with the drawing inside the printable margin. Plain copy paper is fine; choose “Fit to page” if your printer asks. The faces themselves take a marker cleanly; the mandala borders are better with pencils, since some of their segments are only a couple of millimetres wide.
