What Makes Chimpanzees Interesting?

Chimpanzees are often confused with monkeys, but they aren’t monkeys at all. All primates are categorized as either monkeys or great apes. Chimpanzees fall into the great ape category. One of the biggest differences in these groups is that great apes—including chimpanzees—have tails, and monkeys don’t have tails.

One interesting fact about chimpanzee life is their willingness to embrace powerful females. Many animals only recognize males as alpha or leader, but that isn’t the case within chimpanzee families. Female chimps can easily become alpha, even with strong males in the lineup. These powerful female chimps settle disputes between family members and are treated with great respect by other apes.

Chimpanzees are naturally playful animals. They have their serious moments, but you can also hear them laughing as they play around with one another in their natural environments. Their laughter is contagious, and you can almost hear it as you color a fun picture of a playful chimpanzee romping between the tree line.

The Fun of Coloring Chimpanzees

Animal coloring pages feature chimpanzees in their natural habitats. They often strike playful poses with their front paws stretched out over the ground, as if ready to run or climb up a tall tree. Many pages feature elements of the chimps’ natural environments. That may include tree branches, bushes, rocks, and big skies with clouds.

Swing in the Trees with the Chimps

If you want to capture the true spirit of the chimpanzee, look for chimp coloring pages that feature vines. Chimps naturally swing on long, strong vines in their natural habitat. It’s a fast way to get from tree to tree or one end of the forest to the other. Coloring those vines along with a cute chimp is a great way to pass a rainy afternoon or dull evening at home.

Chimpanzees Young and Old

Most chimpanzee coloring sheets feature chimps of all ages. Some pictures focus on adorable baby chimpanzees sitting in the grass, climbing trees, and exploring their natural habitats. Others feature older chimpanzees either up close with wisdom and experience in the lines of their faces.  This inclusiveness makes chimpanzee coloring pages more fun for everyone to enjoy.

When You Need a Smile, Color a Chimpanzee

If you’re browsing printable animal coloring pages, there is one good reason to select at least one chimpanzee picture: They will make you smile!

Baby chimpanzees often have big smiles stretched across their faces when portrayed on coloring sheets. They appear playful and perhaps a little ornery in many of their printable coloring sheets. When you need to lift your spirits or give someone else a reason to smile, it makes sense to spend time coloring a happy animal in a playful mood. It just might help lift your mood as well.

Printable Chimpanzee Coloring Sheets

You can print out a variety of chimpanzee coloring pages or mix your chimp pictures up with other monkeys and great apes. Printing a mix allows you to teach children or even yourself the difference between these often-confused animals. Coloring each animal and writing out their names across the top of each sheet is a great exercise for kids of all ages learning about monkeys and apes.

Chimpanzees are perfect for adult coloring enthusiasts as well. They make many older adults smile and may bring back memories of visiting the zoo in their younger years. Kids and adults can color together when you print out the adorable chimps in their natural habitats.
