The Candyland board game was created by a schoolteacher working with children infected with Polio during an epidemic in the 1940s into the 1950s. Eleanor Abbott intentionally made the game simple. She wanted to make sure young children could easily play alongside older children.

Many parents and grandparents have joined in for the fun over the years as well. I love Candyland because it allowed me to enjoy games with my children when they were young. We could play with children of all ages, and everyone was guaranteed to have fun.

Today, Candyland is the inspiration for a variety of fun printable coloring pages. They feature candies of the best kind—the ones that don’t give you a toothache!

Bring Candyland Characters to Life

Candyland coloring sheets are more fun when they feature characters from the board game. There are some great kids who make an appearance, but the animated characters like bats and gumdrop trees are even more exciting. Some Candyland characters you may see in printable coloring sheets include:

  • Lord Licorice – From his pointed nose to his elaborate clothes, you’ll want to color him in all red and black. On the original Candyland board, he was found close to Licorice Castle.
  • King Kandy – You can’t forget the King of Candyland. He wears colorful clothing in courtly style plus a large crown. His staff is often gold, but you can get creative with candy-licious color there as well.
  • Queen Frostine – Consider Frostine the queen of Candyland past. On the original game board, she wore a fluffy blue and white dress with a bedazzled crown on her head.
  • Mr. Mint – You’ll find him in the snow surrounded by peppermint sticks. He’s often colored in pint, red, and white, but you can get creative. Our modern-day candy canes come in so many colors!
  • Lolly – She loves to dance amongst the lollipops and gumdrops. She’s often seen wearing a bright yellow dress dotted with decorative candies of various colors. Her hair is especially fun to shade and gives you the opportunity to play with many colors.
  • Gloppy – He’s a big puddle of melted chocolate, but why not make him white chocolate from time to play? His playful smile is guaranteed to get little ones in a good mood.
  • Plumpy – You’ll find this lovable monster near the sugarplum tree, and he always has a smile on his face. Traditionally, he’s all green with a purple ornament around his neck and adorable horns on each side of his head.

Of course, we can’t forge the Candyland Kids. They were pictured on the original game board as a boy and girl with blond hair racing along with the colorful game squares. They wear overalls and are often pictured with red and white shirts and shoes to mimic a candy cane.
