Ornate designs
Seven pages fill the animal with pattern: one rising through a bed of flower-like coral, one whose whole body is built from overlapping scallops, a pair facing each other among tall weed, one curled over a breaking wave drawn in fine curls. Small enclosed shapes throughout and no large flat areas — the pages that take an evening rather than an hour.
Simple scenes
Five pages draw the animal plainly and set it in the water: hovering beside a frond of seaweed, above a scatter of shells and pebbles, among small fish and bubbles. The body is outlined with its ridges but left open inside, which makes these the pages to hand a child around 6 to 10.
Kawaii pages and the named sheet
Two pages go cute — a round-eyed seahorse beside a smiling starfish, and one paired with a shark among the weed. One more page is different: two seahorses with the word Seahorse lettered across the top in outline capitals, which turns it into a naming sheet as well as a picture, and makes it the obvious one for a preschool topic on sea animals.
The underwater scene
One page opens right out: a whole reef of dolphins, sharks, jellyfish, crabs and small fish with the seahorse among them and a fishing line strung across the surface.
