Over nearly 40 years, the franchise has gone through several iterations. It’s still a favorite of kids everywhere.
Most of the pop culture popularity today is from the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic series. The show couldn’t be cuter, and it teaches kids valuable life lessons. Your child is sure to love coloring these adorable ponies.
The Generations of My Little Pony
My Little Pony has had four generations, with the fifth generation launching in September 2021. If your kid doesn’t have MLP brain yet, they may soon.
The first generation featured Snuzzle, Butterscotch, Blue Belle, Minty, Blossom, and Cotton Candy. Along with the toys, several movies and TV shows were released. These include My Little Pony and Friends, and My Little Pony Tales.
The second generation had a slightly different design, and never reached the popularity of the original. A game called Friendship Gardens featured the ponies from generation 2.
The third generation was marketed towards preschool kids. It wasn’t wildly successful either. It spawned several shows, including Once Upon a My Little Pony Time.
The fourth-generation has achieved huge popularity. It’s marketed at young girls, but older kids and even adults also love the ponies.
The fourth generation is set in Equestria. The pony character include Twilight Sparkle, Spike, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy. The television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, is the show based on the fourth-generation ponies.
There’s also a spinoff, My Little Pony Equestria Girls. This series features an alternate version of Equestria. It’s set on earth, with the girl characters being based on the pony characters. If you’ve ever wondered what Cutie Pie and Fluttershy would look like if they were human, watch this show to find out.
Friendship is Magic Characters
The core characters of the show are known as the Mane Six. Twilight Sparkle is the main character. She is smart and loves to read. Her cutie mark is a six-pointed star, which represents her and her connection to the other ponies.
The series wouldn’t be complete without the royal family. This includes Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Cadence, and Shining Armor.
They are Alicorns, which are a bit of a cross between a Pegasus pony and a unicorn pony. Alicorns have the magical powers of the unicorn and the warm heart of an earth pony. They are also able to fly, like the pegasi.
Princess Celestia is the older sister of Princess Luna. Shining Armor is Twilight’s brother, and he is married to Princess Cadence.
