The coloring pages that we older folks used to have when we were kids consisted largely of popular cartoon characters, superheroes, and sometimes scenes from nature like flower gardens. All these subjects allowed for a huge range of colors to be used, so the final result could be visually appealing, and the work necessary could be pleasant and satisfying. Nowadays, the subjects for coloring pages are far more diverse, but still in tune with the comprehension level of the young artist. Even youngsters are aware of the pesky little varmints that land on their arms and legs, attempting to suck blood from them, and causing the victim to swipe at them in order to rid themselves of the attacker. You might be surprised about how interested your child is when it comes to coloring mosquitos, because they do have some appealing qualities, at least for coloring.

What’s great about coloring mosquitos?

When your child is coloring mosquito pages, it will be a good way for them to learn about the various body parts on the critter. The parts themselves probably won’t be identified in terms of their names, but the artist will come away with an understanding that the mosquito has eyes, wings, a body, legs, antennae, and, of course, the long, penetrating hose. Some coloring pages will identify different types of mosquitos as well, and even though your child won’t remember any of their names, he/she will realize that there are all kinds of different mosquitos around the world, and that they can even look a little different. As a first exposure to the wonderful world of mosquitos, it will be enough to know that there’s more than just one kind of pest that dwells in your corner of the world. Another good thing about coloring mosquito pages is that your child can easily get away with the simplest possible coloring scheme, which is to use just one color for the entire picture. Since they’re fairly small creatures to begin with, they don’t really call for using the entire color spectrum to get them colored. Keeping things simple will make it easy for your youngsters and will help to keep them focused on the task at hand. Then too, depending on how sophisticated the coloring pages are, they may provide some really useful information to the coloring artist. Some pages actually describe the life cycle of the mosquito, some talk about the different types of mosquitos, and some will describe the body parts and the functions that each one of them serves. Even without realizing it, your child may come away with a greater understanding of how mosquitos operate.

Coloring in mosquitos

It might be a little difficult for your youngster to color the legs and the hose of a coloring book mosquito, because both will be depicted as long, slender objects. However, this might be good practice for your child and contribute to the discipline of keeping the color within the very narrow confines of those body parts. It will be considerably easier to color in the wings, the head, and the body, because those parts are all somewhat larger, and provide more space for the young artist to get creative about coloring. In any case, coloring in mosquitos will provide both a challenge and a reward to the young artist, with opportunities for demonstrating coloring discipline and creativity at the same time. For sure it will call for a bit more precision than coloring in an elephant – but what does precision matter to a young person anyway?
