This page has 12 free printable word searches, each with its own answer key — 24 sheets in all. Every puzzle carries a themed word list at the bottom and hides those words up, down, across and diagonally in the grid. Each sheet downloads as a free PDF on US Letter and needs no signup.
The twelve themes are chosen so a child recognises the words before they start hunting: Paw Patrol, Disney, Mario, sea creatures, farm, dogs and cats, forest animals, space, volcanoes, fruits, vegetables, rocks and gems. That matters more than grid size — a puzzle stops being frustrating when the child already knows what “geyser” or “chipmunk” means. Word lists run nine to twelve entries per sheet.

What’s in this collection
Twelve puzzles and twelve matching answer keys — 24 downloads in the grid below. Each has its own Download PDF and Print button, so you can print the puzzle now and keep the key back until it is needed.

The twelve themes
Four are character sets — Paw Patrol, Disney, Mario and dogs and cats — built from names and words a child already says out loud. Four are animals and nature: sea creatures (dolphin, lobster, seahorse, jellyfish, octopus), farm (turkeys, alfalfa, sunflower, bale), forest animals (coyote, chipmunk, raccoon, mosquito, squirrel) and fruits. Four lean science and school: space (Neptune, Uranus, Apollo, galaxy), volcanoes (geyser, magma, fissure, dormant, crater), vegetables and rocks and gems (garnet, topaz, crystal, geologist). The last four double as vocabulary practice, which is why they suit a classroom warm-up.
The answer keys
Every puzzle has a matching solution sheet: the same grid with each hidden word traced through in color. They are separate downloads on purpose, so a key never ends up on the back of the sheet you just handed over.
How to print these
Every sheet is US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) portrait, with the grid and word list inside the printable margin. Plain copy paper is fine; choose “Fit to page” if your printer asks. These sheets arrive with color already on them — the border and the header — but the grid letters are black on white, so a greyscale print stays perfectly solvable and costs less for a class set.
FAQ
Do these word searches come with answers?
Yes — all twelve have a matching answer key with the words traced through the grid, downloadable as its own PDF.
What age are these for?
About 6 to 11. The character themes suit the younger end; the volcanoes, space and rocks-and-gems sheets carry longer words and suit 9 and up.
Can words run backwards or diagonally?
Yes. Each sheet says so at the top: words can be up, down, across or diagonal, which is what keeps the grid from being solved in one pass.
Are these free for classroom use?
Yes. Print as many copies as you need for your home or your own classroom. Re-selling or re-uploading the files elsewhere is the only thing not allowed.
For more no-prep puzzle sheets, the printable mazes work the same way with answer keys, and the activities collection holds the rest of the free puzzle sets on the site.
