Amongst the traditional characters of the farm, artists often take a cute and whimsical approach to portray cows. These bovine pictures provide nostalgia for a simpler life in the country. Having a cattle rancher for a grandfather quickly dispelled this fantasy as I got an up-close look of the cattle ranching living. Regardless, many love coloring pictures of cows, and there are plenty of places to find them.

Cow Coloring Pages For Toddlers
Younger children may find it easier to color cartoonish cows that do not have extra lines or designs. These less realistic animals provide a more whimsical coloring experience for the kids. This will entertain them more and provide a more straightforward canvas for beginners.
Cow Coloring Pages For Older Kids
As kids get older, busier pictures or more life-like pictures can be used. Pictures depicting cows in action or other famous cows from popular culture can entertain more aged kids. Other familiar pictures that feature cows heavily are farmyard scenes where the cow is a staple of the barnyard animal lineup.
Cow Coloring Pages for Adults
There are cow coloring books for adults who love to color and also love cows. These pictures depict the animals with intricate designs that will challenge adult and teenage artists. There are also cow coloring pages for adults online that provide similar patterns and challenges.
Types of Cows
- Black Angus: These cows are a common beef cow. Their fur is charcoal black, and they grow to be very large.
- Holstein Friesian: This breed of cow looks like what many would consider a traditional cow. It is white, with black splotches. For a good example just look at the next Chik-fil-A billboard you see.
- Hereford: This is another common beef cow breed. The Herefords have reddish-brown fur with splotches of white around the belly and face.
- Belted Galloway: This is one of the breeds known as “Oreo Cows”. This is because the pattern on their fur looks like an Oreo Cookie, with black on the front and back of the cow, with a thick white stripe around the middle.
- Texas Longhorn: These cows are famous for the enormous horns that give the animals their name. Also, this is the type of cow that is mascot for the University of Texas.
Cows in Popular Culture
- Ferdinand the Bull: Ferdinand is a beloved children’s story about a strong giant bull who wants to be left alone and smell flowers. It was adapted to an animated movie a few years ago starring John Cena. If your kids love the story or the film, finding some pictures of Ferdinand and his friends to color could be ideal.
- The Cows of Chik-fil-A: If you find the many ads and commercials of Chik-fil-A amusing or terrifying, one thing is for sure, those mischievous cows that struggle with spelling are incredibly well known.
- Clarabelle Cow: Clarabelle has been a staple of the Disney cartoons as one of Minnie Mouse’s good friends. She often shows up in adaptations that feature those original cartoons.
- The Cow that jumped over the Moon: The famous nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle” brought the cow jumping over the moon into popular culture. Parents are sure to find plenty of coloring pictures depicting this scene. And, don’t forget the dog, cat, the dish, or the spoon.
- The Experian Purple Cow: For some reason, I am mentioning John Cena and cows… again. However, Experian’s credit boost feature is marketed by John Cena and a big purple cow.
