20 Free Dot to Dot Printables (Connect the Dots 1-20)

This collection has 14 free dot to dot printables, and every single one connects dots numbered 1 to 20 — no page skips numbers or stretches past 20. Four are rated easiest (star, rainbow, kite), eight are medium (house, tree, fish, sailboat, umbrella, flower, mug, cat face), and two are harder (butterfly, rocket), so the set covers preschool through early-elementary without you having to hunt for the right difficulty. Every page is black and white on US Letter, downloads as a free PDF, and needs no signup.

Each puzzle is a single unbroken outline — dot 1 connects to dot 2, dot 2 to dot 3, and so on all the way to dot 20 — so nothing about the picture is guessable from the dots alone until the lines go down. That’s on purpose: a dot-to-dot that gives away the picture before you’ve connected anything isn’t much of a puzzle.

Three dot-to-dot printables side by side: star, house, and rocket, each numbered 1 to 20

How difficulty works in this set

Difficulty here comes from how many direction changes the outline makes, not from the dot count — every page has exactly 20 dots. A rainbow’s arc bends smoothly in one direction, so it’s easy to predict where the next dot sits. A butterfly’s wings change direction sharply and repeat on both sides, so tracking which number comes next takes more focus.

Easiest first: star, rainbow, kite

These three have the fewest direction changes. The star is 5 simple points with no curves. The rainbow is one smooth arc, spaced widest of anything in the set. The kite is a plain 4-corner diamond. Good starting point for a preschooler holding a crayon for the first time.

Medium: house, tree, fish, sailboat, umbrella, flower, mug, cat face

These eight mix straight edges with one or two extra details — a chimney on the house, a trunk under the tree, a dorsal fin on the fish, a second sail on the boat, a looped handle on the mug, two ears on the cat. The extra detail means an occasional short hop between dots instead of one long smooth line, which is where kindergarten and 1st-grade kids start to get real practice.

Trickier: butterfly, rocket

The butterfly’s four wings mean the outline changes direction eight times in quick succession — the most of any page in this set. The rocket keeps a narrow body but adds two angled fins and a notched engine base near the end, so the last few dots take more care than the first few.

How to print these

Every page is US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), pure black and white, with the full outline inside a 0.5 in margin. Plain copy paper is fine for all 14 — none of these use fine interior detail that would need heavier paper or a fine-tip pen.

FAQ

Are these the same as connect the dots?

Yes — “dot to dot” and “connect the dots” are the same activity, just two common names for it. Every page here works the same way: find dot 1, draw a line to dot 2, and keep going in order to dot 20.

What age are dot to dot puzzles good for?

The 4 easiest pages (star, rainbow, kite, and simpler shapes) suit preschool and kindergarten, since the dots are widely spaced and the numbers stay in easy reach of a first pencil grip. The 2 harder pages (butterfly, rocket) suit 1st and 2nd grade, since tracking direction changes takes more sustained attention.

Do all the pages really go up to 20?

Yes. Every one of the 14 pages numbers its dots 1 through 20 — none stop early or continue past 20, so counting practice stays consistent across the whole set.

Can I download all 14 as one file?

Not as a single file. Each page has its own Download PDF button in the grid, which keeps individual files small and lets you print only the ones you want.
