2. Fun Guide to Color Velociraptor Coloring Pages

Coloring is about having fun and allowing the imagination to run wild. I’d used to stress about how to choose the “right” colors, but then I realized that the right color is the one that makes you happy! Here are some easy-to-do tips and tricks to make your velociraptor coloring pages even more fun and attractive:

How to Choose the Right Colors

This is the most fun part! What color is a Velociraptor? The truth is, nobody knows for certain! To put that another way, you’re the expert.

You think they went in the jungle and used colors to hide? If so, you might use greens, browns, grays.” This is called camouflage! Or maybe you believe they were flashy and had bright feathers to flaunt.

You might splash around great, hothouse reds, electric blues and a stadium-yellows. How about creating a rainbow raptor striped and polka-dotted? There are no rules here. Your dinosaur, your colors!

Your Awesome Coloring Tools

What are you going to use to color your masterpieces? Each tool creates a different, cool look!

  • Crayons: These are great, especially for little artists! They’re easy to grip and are perfect for coloring the large areas of your dinosaur. It gives your picture that classic waxy appearance and it’s just awesome. You can push down hard for darker colors, or you can brush gently for a soft finish.
  • Colored Pencils: I love these for small details! Colored pencil tips make detail work in the eyes, sharp teeth and individual feathers in your carnivorous dinosaur drawings easier. You can get cool effects by layering multiple colors over one another. Try putting a layer of yellow down and then pinching it with a little bit of blue to get green!
  • Markers: Just because you’re looking for bold, bright, neon colors, do you? Then grab your markers! They produce colors that are SO flattering to the eye. They are great for the cartoon and movie-star raptors and allow the creature to appear flashy and alive.

A small FYI: markers may bleed through the paper sometimes. So, you’d better lay another piece of paper behind the one you are coloring, just in case.

Making a Cool Background

And, of course, your Velociraptor is the star of the show, but where does it sleep? Putting a background in your picture makes it more of a portal to the dinosaur world. It doesn’t have to be that hard! You can draw just a few lines to flesh out the setting.

  • For A Jungle: Huge, wavy leaf shapes for giant ferns. Add straight brown lines for tree trunks.
  • For a Desert: Now draw a big, bumpy, brown oval shape - you’re making some rocky terrain. Color it in just like the rocks we drew in the first step. Then, add in a few wavy yellow lines near the top right corner (these are sunbeams).
  • For a Volcano Land: Draw a huge pointy triangle in the distance and draw the tip bright red to look like it’s hot. Then tilt your paper to add plenty of red and orange zigzags of lava spewing from the peak.

3. Creative Ideas to Use Velociraptor Coloring Pages

The fun doesn’t stop when you’re done coloring! Your beautiful artwork can be transformed into all sorts of cool crafts. Here are a few simple and fun ideas for your finished extinct species pictures.

Make Your Own Dinosaur Mask

Let’s pretend! Take one of these cool photos close-up of a Velociraptor’s eye and presto! Instant awesome coloring page.

Once you have it colored to perfection, have your adult cut it out in the lines with scissors to avoid being jagged. Then, glue it carefully onto a paper plate or a thin piece of cardboard so that it becomes stiff, like from a cereal box.

Lastly, of course, get your adult to help you cut some holes in the mask to ensure you can see out of it. Last of all, make a small hole in either edge of the mask and thread a piece of string or elastic through the holes.

Create Awesome Dinosaur Puppets

Let’s put on a show! It’s so super easy. When you’re finished velociraptor coloring pages, cut it out. So you tape a popsicle stick or any stick from the yard to the back, and that’s it! You have a stick puppet!

Make plenty of them and put on a whole dinosaur puppet show for your family. Here’s another great one; take a paper lunch bag. Glue your raptor’s head onto the bottom of the bag. Pushing on its ‘body’ makes your dinosaur ‘roar’ by opening and closing its ‘mouth.’

Design Your Own Greeting Cards

Do you have a friend with an upcoming birthday? Well, then, there is no better gift than a homemade card! Take a coloured piece of paper. Fold it in half to have the dinosaur card.

Glue your lovely coloured and cut out Velociraptor to the front. Write a personal message inside as well as something along the lines of “Hope you have a DINO-MITE birthday!”. Or “Thank you for being a ROAR-some friend!”. Your very own specially made card is a present in itself.

Make a Fun Party Banner

So if your little one’s having a dinosaur party, you can make your own decorations. Print out and color five or six of a velociraptor coloring page.

You may need about five or six of these. Cut all four of them out when they are dry. At the top of every other use a hole punch to punch a tiny hole. Then feed the ribbon through the holes of your banner. You’ve got an awesome, unique party banner!
