1. Did you know that the word ”peacock” doesn’t refer to male and female birds? Males are known as peacocks, and females are called peahens. Peafowl is the collective name for male and female birds. 

2. The peafowl family has three different kinds of species. Asia has two of them, while the other comes from Africa, called the Congo peafowl. The Asian one is the blue or Indian peafowl and green peafowl.

3. Peahens and peacocks can live up to 50 years if they’re domestic animals. But they can live up to 20 years in the wild.

4. Peahens are twice smaller than peacocks.

5. These beautiful birds are known for their large, colorful tail. This tail is called a “train.”

6. All peafowl have minimal patches of skin around their eyes.

7. Can you run faster than peacocks? Peacocks can run at 10 miles per hour.

8. When a predator tries to kill peacocks, the birds escape by flying into a tree. 

9. Peafowl have some crowns on top of their heads. They’re called crests.

11. Baby peafowl is known as chicks.
