Depending on the age of the child, dictates how quickly they are growing. A newborn grows about two pounds each month after one-month-old. A newborn grows about one to one and a half inches per month.

When I buy clothes for my child, I think about how long will my child actually wear this item.

What is Most Important when Looking for New Clothes?

When I look for new clothes for my children, I look at the fabric, openings in the clothing, and how the clothes fasten. I also consider how easy it is to put the clothes on my child when I think about buying them. I know that polyester and nylon can irritate the sensitive skin of a baby.

These fabrics do not allow a baby to regulate its body temperature and may be uncomfortable for the baby.

How Do I Know What Size is the Right One?

When buying clothes for my child, I work hard to buy something that I know is going to fit the baby. There is nothing worse than buying something cute for the baby that does not fit. It is more comfortable for the baby to be in clothes that fit and not clothes that are too small.

However, we all know how quickly kids, especially babies, can grow. Clothes often have a standard measurement that can be helpful in selecting the appropriate size. It is typical for a baby to fall between sizes.

When I am not sure about the right size, I always opt for a larger size.

Can I Trust the Sizes Listed by a Clothes Manufacturers?

There are not typically standards for clothes for each piece of clothing. For children under a certain age, clothes are listed by age. However, what is most important to remember is that just because a child is three months old, it does not mean that the child will fit into a piece of clothing intended for a three-month-old.

Therefore, it is more important that I verify the sizes that my child fits into. I do this by measuring my child to determine what size would fit my child best.

What Should I Look for When Looking for Toddler Clothes?

Toddler clothes are indicated by a number followed by a T. It looks like this 3T. The number indicates the age of the child. So a 3T shirt should fit a three-year-old.

A 3T overlaps with a 36-month shirt. When a shirt has a 3T size, it is going to be slightly smaller than the 36-month size. When something has a T, it is going to be many inches shorter than 36 months.

These sizes vary greatly based on the brand of the clothing. While I would expect these different brands to fit the same, sadly, they do not. While my child fits a 3T in one brand, they may need 36 months or a 4T in another brand.
