One of my most favorite childhood toys was a classic toy, known as the Spirograph. I would sit for hours and use plastic shapes and colored pens to draw all kinds of shapes. What is a Spirograph?
The Spirograph was first sold in 1965 and is still in production today. It is ideal for children ages 8 and up. What few people realize about the Spirograph is that it is a mathematical toy. It was created by British engineer Denys Fisher. Most kids and parents think of it as more of an arts and crafts toy that allows them to use plastic rings with gears to draw different shapes.
The gears are on the inside and outside of the plastic ring. You can put the gears together in any kind of arrangement that you would like. The result is spiral drawings. You can use a pen, markers, and pencils with plastic rings.

Over the years, the Spirograph has had a facelift and improved. Yes, it is possible to create your own Spirograph and have many hours of enjoyment. All you need is plastic lids to cut into circular disks. Then punch holes into the plastic disk you cut. Place the plastic disk inside of a masking tape container and enjoy your own personal Spirograph. It may not be as fun to use as the actual game, but it is something you created yourself.
Is There a Spirograph For Adults?
There is not a Spirograph specifically made for adults, but adults can enjoy any one of the Spirograph options available. There are so many game options available on the market that there is sure to be one that adults love to use.
Which Spirograph Set is the Best One to Buy?
There are many different Spirograph sets available. If you do not want to purchase all of them, there are a few sets you can consider. These sets include the Spirograph Deluxe Design Set which is the closest to the original set you remember from your childhood.
